About Libertyblue

Libertyblue began in 1999 as an on line source for my Advanced Placement Government and Politics high school students. Due to any number of budget cuts by the county, the amount of paper we were allowed to use in the course of the year was monitored by the administration and we were not to use over a certain number of sheets of paper for the given year. By mid-year I was within a few hundred copies of reaching my limit. I had to figure a way for the students to be informed of their reading assignments and also receive a copy of each chapter outline that would guide them as they read. The solution was to put all the information on line for them to download and print out individually. This way they provided the paper instead of the school. The only problem was that I didn't know anything about building a web site, but my wife did. With her guidance and patience I learned what I needed to know and Libertyblue was born.

I was lucky to teach students who were financially able to access the Internet. I allowed those who did not have Internet capabilities a chance to go to the media center to access the site. At first the site was only concerned with the assignments and outlines plus pages that explained my grading procedure and the class syllabus. I gradually expanded it to include review pages to help prepare them for the AP Government Exam and later I added copies of all the test to help prepare the students for my mid-term and final exams. The remaining pages still exist with the exception of the Bonus Question page. The bonus question changed approximately every 3 weeks. By e-mailing me the correct answer to the question the students were able to earn extra points (usually 4) to add to their quiz or test averages.

After teaching eight years beyond the number of years required by the state, I retired in 2004. I decided to keep Libertyblue and allow it to evolve. By August it was mostly concerned with politics past and present.

In March of 2005 Libertyblue changed again. This time the emphasis moved from politics, although it still maintained a presence there. The new focus was on stories, jokes, rants, and what ever. For the most part the site is concerned with humor.

In January of 2006 political maps and information were discarded. The only political presence was found in the rants, stories or jokes. I added the Buffy Cat blog after a kitten adopted my wife and I. The main emphasis of the site remains humor, but it amy evolve into something if the urge hits me.

And evolve it did, but humor remained the emphasis. In June of 2006 Limericks were added and the site was given a new look. I hand picked the limericks to post from books and uncopyrighted material. The stories and jokes are updated regularly as is the Buffy Cat blog. I feel this is what I want Libertyblue to be concerned with for a while.
